Taco Tuesday – Free Taco Scrubby Crochet Pattern

It’s Taco Tuesday!! Taco bout cute! Crochet a few taco scrubbies for your favorite taco lover.

Materials:
Yarn Bee Scrub-ology Cotton yarn –
13 yards yellow
3 yards green
2 yards red
Size G (4.0 mm) crochet hook
Yarn needle

Finished scrubby measures approximately 4.5” wide x 2.75” tall.

Directions:
SHELL:
Rnd 1: With yellow yarn, ch 2 (or magic circle), 7 sc in 2nd ch from hook (7 sc). Do not join. Work in continuous rnds throughout shell.
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around (14 sc).
Rnd 3: *Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st,* repeat around (21 sc).
Rnd 4: *Sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st,* repeat around (28 sc).
Rnd 5: *Sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st,* repeat around (35 sc).
Rnd 6: *Sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st,* repeat around (42 sc).
Rnd 7: *Sc in next 5 sts, 2 sc in next st,* repeat around (49 sc).
Rnd 8: *Sc in next 6 sts, 2 sc in next st,* repeat around (56 sc).
FILLING:
Row 1: With green yarn, ch 22, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 5 ch, 2 sc in next ch, *sc in next 6 ch, 2 sc in next ch,* repeat once (24 sc).
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in first st, *sk next st, 6 dc in next st (shell st), sk next st, sc in next st,* repeat to end of row ending with sc in last st.
Note: You may need to sk 2 sts before the last sc. Fasten off green.
Row 3: Attach red yarn in one of the skipped sts between shell sts. Ch 2, work bobble st in same sp.
Bobble st: [yo, insert hook, yo, pull through, yo, pull through 2 lps] 3 times, yo and pull through all lps.
Sl st between 2 green shell sts and fasten off red yarn. Repeat the bobble st (tomatoes) between each shell st.
Weave in all ends.
Place filling on one half of shell, fold shell in half, and sew in place with a back st and yellow yarn. Make sure you catch all 3 layers in your sts – 2 layers of yellow and 1 layer of green.

Frankenstein Scrubby

September is here, so I feel safe posting Halloween designs. I know some people get annoyed at stores who put their holiday merchandise out too early, but as crafters, we need it early! Am I right? There are so many things to make and never enough time. I usually start making Christmas gifts in January. In fact, I buy gift wrap and boxes in the after-Christmas sales. That way I can wrap the presents as I finish them and not have to worry about wrapping them all in December. Anyway, one of my favorite Halloween icons is Frankenstein, so today’s free pattern is a scrubby. This little guy only took me only an hour to crochet. Because they were out of stock of the Red Heart Scrubby Yarn in the colors I needed, I went to Hobby Lobby and got Yarn Bee Scrub-ology. This yarn is a bit softer than the RH and more suitable (in my opinion) to scrubbies for the skin rather than for the kitchen. I’m looking forward to coming up with a few more scrubby designs in the future.

Scrubby measures 3.5″ x 3″.

Frankenstein’s Monster Scrubby

Materials:

Yarn Bee Scrub-ology cotton yarn – 15 yards green

Cotton worsted yarn – 5 yards black

Size G (4.0 mm) crochet hook

Yarn needle

Directions:

Row 1: With green yarn, ch 13, sc in 2^nd ch from hook and each ch across (12 sc).

Rows 2-3: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st. Ch 3 at the end of Row 3.

Row 4: Sc in 2^nd ch, sc in next ch, sc in next 12 sts, work 2 chainless foundation sc (16 sc).

Row 5: Ch 1, sc in each st (16 sc)

Row 6: Ch 1, turn, sl st over first 2 sts, sc in next 16 sts, leave remaining 2 sts unworked (16 sc).

Rows 7-8: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st. Fasten off green.

Rows 9-10: With black yarn, ch 1, turn, sc in each st.

Row 11: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st with 2 sc in last st. Turn to crochet down the side, sc in end of next 2 rows, change to green, sc down side and around ear with 2 sc in end of Row 1. Sc in each unused loop of Row 1 with 2 sc in last loop. Sc across opposite side and ear, changing to black yarn for last 2 rows. Sc in same st as first st of Row 11. Join with sl st. Fasten off black. Weave in all ends.

EYES:

With black yarn, ch 2 (or magic circle), work 5 sc in 2^nd ch from hook. Join with sl st. Fasten off leaving 6” length. Sew eyes to face at Rows 6-7.

Mouth:

Use black yarn to embroider mouth.
