Materials:

Worsted weight yarn:

35 yards MC

3 yards CC

Crochet hook size G (4.0 mm)

Yarn needle

40-mm wiggly eyes

 

Finished measurement: 4” wide x 5.5” tall

Gauge: 9 sc = 2″

Directions:

Row 1: With MC yarn, ch 14, sc in 2nd ch, sc in next 12 ch (13 sc).

Rows 2-13: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st.

Row 14: Ch 1, turn, sc in BLO of each st.

Rows 15-30: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st (both lps).

Row 31: Ch 1, turn, dec, sc in next 9 st, dec (11 sc).

Row 32: Ch 1, turn, dec, sc in next 7 st, dec (9 sc).

Row 33: Ch 1, turn, dec, sc in next 5 st, dec (7 sc).

Row 34: Ch 1, turn, dec, sc in next 3 st, dec (5 sc). Fasten off MC yarn.

Go back to Row 1 and use unused lps of foundation ch. Attach MC in first st, sc in each st (13 sc). Fasten off MC.

EARS: (Make 2)

Row 1: With CC yarn, ch 2, sc in 2nd ch from hook.

Row 2: Ch 1, turn, inc (2 sc).

Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in firs tst, inc in next st (3 sc). Fasten off leaving 6” length for sewing.

Sew ears to edge of head at Rows 31-34.

Using the BLO sts of Row 14 as a guide, fold up Rows 1-13. Attach MC yarn at bottom edge and sc through both sides of edges of chick. Continue in sc across edges of remaining rows all the way to the top, sc across the top including around ears with 3 sc in tips of ears. Then sc down the other side. Fasten off yarn.

EYELIDS: (Make 2)

Row 1: With MC yarn, ch 6, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 4 ch (5 sc).

Row 2: Ch 1, turn, inc in first st, sc in next 3 sts, inc in last st (7 sc). Fasten off leaving 6” length for sewing.

Glue eyes to Rows 2-6 one st apart. Sew eyelids above eyes, covering the top portion of the eye.

With CC yarn, embroider nose at Rows 7-8. Embroider mouth below nose.

Use ribbons, fabric paint, felt, etc. to decorate for any holiday.

Orange Padlock Crochet Pattern

Materials:

30 yards orange worsted yarn or scrubby yarn

Size G (4.0 mm) crochet hook

6” ball keychain with connector

Small amount of Fiberfill

Gauge: 5 rows = 1”, 4 sts = 1”

Padlock measures 3.5” tall by 2.25” wide (slightly larger with scrubby yarn).

Directions:

BODY:

Rnd 1: Ch 6, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 3 ch, 3 sc in last ch. Working on opposite side of foundation ch, sc in next 3 lps, 2 sc in last lp (12 sc). Do not join. Work in continuous rnds throughout.

Rnd 2: 2 sc in first st, sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next 3 sts, sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next 2 sts (18 sc).

Rnd 3: *Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st,* sc in next 3 sts, * to * 3 times, sc in next 3 sts, * to * 2 times (24 sc).

Rnd 4: Working in BLO, sc in each st.

Rnds 5-10: Working in both lps, sc in each st.

Rnd 11: Working in FLO, *dec over 2 sts, sc in next st,* sc in next 3 sts, * to * 3 times, sc in next 3 sts, * to * 2 times (18 sc).

Rnd 12: Working in both lps, inv dec, sc in next 3 sts, inv dec 3 times, sc in next 3 sts, inv dec 2 times (12 sc). Join with sl st. Fasten off leaving 6” length for sewing.

Stuff lightly and sew top closed.

 

SHACKLE:

Attach yarn at end of Rnd 11 on top, ch 20, sl st in Rnd 11 on opposite side.

Ch 1, turn, sl st in bottom lp of each ch, sl st in same st on Rnd 11 where you originally joined yarn. Fasten off yarn leaving 6” length for sewing. Use length to secure shackle to body on each side.

 

Loop ball chain through shackle and secure with connector.
