Describe one simple thing you do that brings joy to your life.

One simple thing I do that brings joy to my life is crochet.  There’s something incredibly calming about the rhythm of the hook and yarn, and the magic of turning a simple strand into something beautiful and handmade. Whether it’s a cozy blanket, a cheerful amigurumi, or just a granny square, each stitch is like a little piece of peace.

Advantages:

There are more rewards that come with crafting – the joy of giving a handmade gift that is designed especially for the recipient is most important.

Creating items to donate to a battered women’s shelter or homeless shelter is very rewarding.

When I sketch out an idea, and the finished product comes out exactly as I had imagined, sometimes it makes me giggle (especially with amigurumi).

Community

Between in-person meetings and online community, there are so many wonderful fiber artists that I have been blessed to meet over the years. Many of us collaborate on events throughout the year, including the Weekly Featured Pattern each Monday.

This week’s design is the lovely Lazy Daisy Market Bag from AJT Crafts. Check out Crochet Designer Community’s Facebook page to get your 50% off coupon.

Sense of Satisfaction

Some days I get a little ego boost. Like today when I logged into AllFreeCrochet and saw my Pink Hippo Keychain pattern is #1 on the What’s Hot list.

A Small Joy That Adds Up

Crochet may be a small act, but it adds so much to my daily life. It’s my creative outlet, my stress reliever, my quiet joy. And on tough days, knowing I can pick up my hook and yarn is enough to bring a little light into the moment.

So, here’s to the simple joys — to the stitches that soothe and the projects that inspire. And to the power of finding happiness in the quiet, handmade things.

Crochet: How I Unwind After a Demanding Day

After a long, demanding day—whether it’s juggling work deadlines, handling errands, or just managing the general chaos of life—there’s one thing that always brings me back to center: crochet.

There’s something incredibly soothing about the rhythm of the hook moving through yarn, the quiet focus it takes to count stitches, and the gentle satisfaction of seeing something beautiful take shape right in your hands. It’s not just a hobby—it’s a form of therapy.

Crocheting allows me to disconnect from screens and stress and reconnect with a slower, more intentional pace. Sometimes I’ll work on a new project I’m designing for a blog hop. Other times I want a mindless project, so I’ll work on a scrap blanket to feel the calm repetition. Either way, the world gets a little quieter, and my mind gets a little clearer.

It’s amazing how something as simple as yarn and a hook can provide so much peace. Crochet doesn’t just create cozy hats or sweet baby toys—it creates space to breathe, to reflect, and to unwind.

So if you’re looking for a way to relax after a tough day, I highly recommend giving crochet a try. It might just become your favorite way to decompress too.

What’s a secret skill or ability you have or wish you had?

I Wish I Had the Ability to Get People’s Attention

Have you ever felt like you’re speaking into the void? Like your words are just echoes, fading without a response? I’ve been there. Sometimes, I wish I had the magical ability to capture people’s attention effortlessly. Imagine commanding a room with just a sentence or sparking curiosity with a simple glance.

In the world of ecommerce, getting people to notice you can feel impossible. Social media algorithms favor the loudest voices.

Maybe I’m biased, but I believe my crochet designs are so cute!! Come on – just look at how adorable!!

The problem is getting noticed in a such a competitive field. Cute isn’t enough. Original isn’t enough. After all, there are several crochet designers whose designs aren’t very original, but they’re successful simply because they have the ability to market themselves to gain a larger customer base.
