🐾 Celebrating Black Cat Appreciation Day with Crochet! 🖤
Today is Black Cat Appreciation Day, a purr-fect excuse to shine a little extra love on these sleek, magical, and often misunderstood kitties. For centuries, black cats have been symbols of mystery and good luck (despite old myths), and if you’re a cat lover, you already know they’re just as sweet and lovable as any other feline.
So why not celebrate with a little creativity and yarn? 🧶
Crochet Ideas for Black Cat Lovers:
🐈 Amigurumi Black Cats – Adorable plushies that make great gifts or desk buddies.
Last year’s Black Cat Keychain pattern was a big hit, so this year I have enlarged it a bit to be a potholder. Using only 12 yards yellow and 30 yards black cotton worsted, you probably have enough in your stash to make a few of these kitty cats.

Everywhere you look, you can see pumpkin spice! We hoomans love it, but what about the fur babies? Wouldn’t they like to have some pumpkin spice too? Crochet a mug of pumpkin space latte for your dog as a special treat.
Please be aware that all dogs are different; some will eat a toy within a day. Bruno will chew on a toy for about 3-4 months before it’s ready for the trash. Regardless of how long it takes them to finish the toy, cotton yarn and cotton stuffing are best because they can be digested by the dog.
For a larger dog, use a double strand of cotton yarn and a size J hook to make a larger toy. For a cat toy, eliminate the squeaker and add catnip and some bells.

Have you been following the news about Artemis I? So far the launch date has been pushed back twice, and now they’re planning for a September 23 launch. Fingers crossed that all goes well on the next attempt.
As a young girl growing up in Southeast Texas, I vividly remember our school field trip to Johnson Space Center in Houston. That was the year of Apollo 13’s flight, and the entire nation was gripped with space fever. When launches were televised during the day, portable televisions were rolled into classrooms so we could watch. Every child in the country wanted to be an astronaut! Although I didn’t make it to NASA as a career, a few classmates eventually worked at Johnson Space Center. Still, my fascination with space continues.
Today’s freebie is a space coloring page for the next generation of would-be astronauts.
Stay tuned for the next space-themed project – Rocket Nap Buddy. We’re putting the final touches on this design which will be offered as a CAL in the next few days.
The granny square blanket depicts stars in space and measures approximately 38″ long by 33” wide. After naptime, the blanket is rolled up and fits inside the rocket which measures approximately 25” long.
If you would like to participate in this Crochet Along, please be sure to sign up to receive notifications of when each step of the CAL is published.
