The flower for January birthdays is the Carnation, scientific name Dianthus (of Zeus). The ancient Greeks called it “the flower of the gods.” They have a slightly spicy scent, sort of like cloves. Each time I smell a carnation, the scent carries me back to high school – school dance corsages made of red and pink carnations.
