June is National Zoo and Aquarium Month – Free Turtle Pattern – Cutest Baby Crochet Contest

turtle earrings

One of my regrets of my recent trip to Atlanta was that it was not long enough. Just the downtown area alone has several attractions that I hope to return for, including the Georgia Aquarium.

Since June is National Zoo & Aquarium Month, I am hoping to make it back soon. In the meantime, I occupied myself this week with crocheting some turtles. Daughter #2 loves turtles, and I originally made the tank top in this pattern for her. The other thing that got me in a turtle mood was finding this little guy in my driveway on Memorial Day. I picked him up and put him in the grass so he wouldn’t get run over.

The pattern is simple, and it can be made in a variety of sizes. Use crochet cotton for jewelry or a small applique; use sport yarn for a slightly larger applique for shirts, jeans, or hats; use cotton worsted for coasters, or double the yarn for potholders. It’s also great for using up those small amounts in your scrap bucket.

Turtle Motif Razor-Back Tank Top

Row 3: Ch 1, turn, dc over 1st 2 sts, sc in last st.

Fasten off and weave in ends. Sew turtled centered onto back of tank top with matching thread.

For smaller motif to make earrings or necklace, use crochet cotton and #3 steel hook for a turtle measuring approximately 2 ½”.

For a larger motif to use as a coaster, use I Love This Cotton worsted yarn and a G hook for a turtle measuring approximately 5”.

National Unicorn Day – Bunny Bath Pouf Pattern

As expected, the weather kept us from attending the Poteet Strawberry Festival last weekend. No worries – we’ll catch the Tejano bands at Fiesta’s Oyster Bake this weekend. On the upside, staying home Saturday night allowed me to get a new Easter pattern done.

   Few yards CC

April in San Antonio – Amazon Giveaway – Free Easter Pattern

Butterfly Baby Dress Crochet Pattern

easter

Unfortunately, our Houston mini vacation has been postponed due to Mick Jagger’s health. Disappointing for us, but I’m sure it’s more frustrating for the Rolling Stones. Hopefully he will heal quickly, and the tour will be rescheduled. Facebook rumors say it will be rescheduled for October, so we’ll see.

We also had tickets for the San Antonio Commanders final home game this weekend, but the Alliance of American Football abruptly shut down the league this week. It’s so disappointing for San Antonio football fans. We attended all the home games, and the fans were great! Texas is definitely football country.

From an entertainment standpoint, we definitely won’t be bored. April is definitely a good time of year to be in San Antonio. This weekend is the Poteet Strawberry Festival, which has always been a favorite for our family. Great music, carnival rides, and all the typical fair food including anything you can think of that is made of strawberries. If the rain holds off on Saturday, we will go see David Lee Garza y Los Musicales, one of my husband’s favorite Tejano bands.

Next week I’ll be getting the house ready for Easter. The Ferrel Family tradition is fajitas for Easter dinner – beef, chicken, and sausage. There will also be rice and beans, potato salad, guacamole, pico de gallo, tortillas, and I’m still working on ideas for a dessert to impress. Family, good food, children running in and out, and of course, cascarones, confetti eggs to crack on someone’s head.

My go-to gift for the children for Easter is a bunny bag filled with candy. The pattern is available in my Ravelry shop as a free download with any purchase through Easter.
