Pug Christmas Tree Ornament

pug ornament

For the last Christmas in July post of the year, I made a cute little Christmas ornament to match my pug, Bruno. He doesn’t look too impressed, does he?

pug ornament

Anyway, I thought it was cute, and I’ll hang it on my tree this year. I may even make a couple more with squeakers inside. That should impress him! Bruno loves squeakers and won’t play with a toy that doesn’t make noise.

It only takes a few yards of each color, so you probably already have them in your scrap basket.

Christmas in July – Melted Snowman Ornament crochet pattern

melted snowman ornament

☃️ Oops! Melted Snowman Ornament – A Hilarious Holiday DIY

Looking for a holiday craft that’s equal parts cute, funny, and unique? Say hello to the Melted Snowman Ornament—a whimsical decoration that’s guaranteed to bring laughs to your tree (and maybe a few sympathetic “aww”s).

This clever craft captures the magic of winter with a little twist: instead of a perfectly built snowman, you get his melted remains—complete with coal eyes, a carrot nose, buttons, and maybe even a tiny scarf floating in a puddle of glittery snow.

Why You’ll Love It

  • Easy to make – Great for kids, families, and beginner crafters

  • Budget-friendly – Uses simple supplies like clear plastic ornaments, faux snow, buttons, and felt

  • Funny conversation piece – A hit at ornament swaps or craft fairs

  • Perfect handmade gift – Especially for teachers, coworkers, or anyone who loves a good holiday chuckle

🎄 How to Make a Melted Snowman Ornament

Materials:

Sport weight yarn – 15 yards white, 4 yards black

Size E (3.5 mm) crochet hook

Yarn needle

White adhesive felt

Ribbon for hanging

Assorted decorations – Googly eyes, felt, twigs, buttons, pompoms

Finished ornament measures approximately 3” diameter.

YouTube Tutorial

Directions:

Rnd 1: With E hook and white yarn, ch 2 (or magic circle), 7 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Do not join. Work in continuous rnds throughout.

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st (14 sc).

Rnd 3: *Sc next st, 2 sc next st,* repeat around (21 sc).

Rnd 4: *Sc next 2 sts, 2 sc next st,* repeat around (28 sc).

Rnd 5: *Sc next 3 sts, 2 sc next st,* repeat around (35 sc).

Rnd 6: *Sc next 4 sts, 2 sc next st,* repeat around (42 sc).

Rnd 7: *Sc next 5 sts, 2 sc next st,* repeat around (49 sc).

Rnd 8: *Sc next 6 sts, 2 sc next st,* repeat around (56 sc).

Rnd 9: *Sc next 7 sts, 2 sc next st,* repeat around (63 sc).

Rnd 10: *Sc next 8 sts, 2 sc next st,* repeat around (70 sc). Join with sl st. Fasten off white. Weave in end.

Place on white adhesive felt and mark around the snowman. Cut felt just inside marked line.

HAT:

Rnd 1: With E hook and black yarn, ch 2 (or magic circle), 7 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Do not join. Work in continuous rnds throughout.

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st (14 sc).

Rnd 3: In BLO, sc in each st.

Rnds 4-5: Working in both loops, sc in each st.

Rnd 6: In FLO, 2 sc in each st (28 sc). Join with sl st. Fasten off black leaving 9” length for sewing. Sew hat to top of snowman.

Peel backing from felt and place on back of snowman, matching edges. Trim felt if needed.

Decorate the snowman by gluing twigs, buttons, pompoms, etc. to top in haphazard fashion. Cut small mittens, scarf, carrot nose, or corncob pipe out of felt and glue on snowman.

Cut piece of ribbon and thread through the top of the ornament for hanging.

🎁 Fun Ideas & Variations

  • Add a printed label with the year for a keepsake

  • Include a funny gift tag: “Wishing you a meltdown-free holiday!”

  • Make them with friends at a DIY ornament party

  • Sell them at craft fairs or give as party favors

❄️ A Little Laugh for the Holidays

Not every snowman survives the season (especially here in Texas), but this one will live on—inside a cozy ornament, spreading smiles year after year. Whether you’re crafting for fun or gifting with a wink, the melted snowman ornament is a lighthearted way to celebrate the season.

Have you made your own melted snowman? Share your creations with #MeltedSnowmanCraft and join the holiday fun!

Manchester, NH – CGOA Chain Link Conference – Elf Gift Bag Crochet Pattern

Christmas Elf Gift Bag Crochet Pattern

I recently had the opportunity to visit Manchester for the first time. All my preconceived ideas of New England came true! It’s such a beautiful city, full of history. I only wish I could have stayed longer. The people, the food, the weather – everything was lovely!

Chain Link Conference 2019

I can’t believe that I’ve been crocheting for most of my life but only found out about the Crochet Guild of America a few years ago. The conference was so much fun – meeting other crocheters from around the world, seeing their creations, hearing their ideas for new projects. Talk about idea overload! I may not sleep for a month with all the designs floating around in my head. One of the classes I took was Irish crochet, and I have so many ideas for future projects. For anyone who wants to learn, Susan Lowman does beautiful work, and she explains everything so well. My class piece isn’t finished yet, but hopefully this weekend I can get to it.

To thank all the wonderful people I met and learned from, My Fingers Fly is offering free shipping on t-shirts and leggings for crocheters. Just use code CGOA by July 31, 2019. https://www.myfingersfly.com/collections/t-shirts

Sew one ear to each side of face from Rnds 9-13.
