ducks and chicks

Ducks and chicks are next on everyone’s list of cutest Easter animals. When I was a teenager, I gave my sister a duckling for Easter, but I accidentally stepped on it and killed it. She was inconsolable! I had to drive her to the feed store when they opened the next day to get her another duck. Actually, I think I bought her 2 more. Anyway, I think it really stuck in her mind, because she now has a small farm where she breeds chickens, ducks, and turkeys. That’s why I made a duck potholder for her. Easter Bunny Hot Rod Crafts

One last posting for Easter craft ideas. When I was in 8th grade home economics class, I learned a simple craft made with Easter candy, and I’ve made them every year since then for my children and extended family.

Candy bunny hot rod
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgLdS5kj7KQ

Based on the candy craft, I came up with a pattern for making the Bunny Hot Rod on an Addi Pro knitting machine.

Bunny Hot Rod on Addi
https://youtu.be/lgLdS5kj7KQ

Materials:

Worsted weight yarn

   ½ oz. white

   ½ oz. purple

   ¾ oz. black

   Few yards pink

Size G crochet hook

Yarn needle

Fiberfil stuffing

2 black plastic safety eyes

Yellow and pink pompoms

RIbbon

Directions:

CAR:

Cast on purple yarn (or color of choice for car). Work 40 rounds, cast off. Stuff and sew both ends closed.

WHEELS (Make 4):

Cast on black yarn. Work 15 rounds, cast off. Sew both ends closed, then sew to car.

BUNNY:

Cast on white yarn. Work 30 rounds, cast off. Sew top closed, stuff top 12 rows. Weave yarn through Rnd 12 to close for head. Stuff remainder of body and sew opening closed. Sew bunny to top of car at back.

EARS (Make 2):

Row 1: With pink yarn, ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 2 ch, 3 sc in last ch. Working on opposite side of starting ch, sc in next 3 chs (9 sc). Fasten off pink.

Row 2: Attach white yarn, ch 1, turn. Sc in next 4 sts, 3 sc in next st, sc in next 4 sts (11 sc). Fasten off leaving 12” length for sewing.Sew one ear to each side of head. Weave in all ends.

Glue on eyes and pink pompom to face. Glue on yellow pompoms to front of car for headlights.

Happy Easter everyone!

National Unicorn Day – Bunny Bath Pouf Pattern

As expected, the weather kept us from attending the Poteet Strawberry Festival last weekend. No worries – we’ll catch the Tejano bands at Fiesta’s Oyster Bake this weekend. On the upside, staying home Saturday night allowed me to get a new Easter pattern done.

Easter Bunny Bath Pouf Crochet Pattern

This pattern works up quickly in worsted yarn. Make a few this evening for your littles’ Easter baskets, add some egg-shaped bath bombs, and bath time will be extra special for them.

Materials:

Cotton worsted yarn:

1 oz. MC for small, 2 oz. for large

   Few yards CC

Size H crochet hook

Yarn needle

Pompom

Sewing needle and thread

Directions:

Rnd 1: Ch 2, 10 hdc in 2nd ch from hook. Join with sl st in 1st hdc.

Rnd 2: 3 hdc in each st (30 hdc).

Rnds 3-4: Repeat Rnd 2 (270 hdc). Stop here for small puff.

Rnd 5: For large puff, repeat Rnd 2 again (810 hdc).

Fold last Rnd in half and sl st through both sides. Ch 15, sl st in same space. Fasten off.

EARS:

Rnd 1: In 2nd st to the right of hangar loop, attach CC yarn, ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 3 ch. Sl st in same st as joining. Fasten off CC. Attach MC yarn in st next to base of ear, sc in 4 unused loops of beg ch, sc in tip of ear, sc in 4 sts of Rnd 1, sl st in Rnd 4 [5] of puff. Fasten off MC. Repeat on opposite side of hangar loop for 2nd ear. Weave in all ends.

April in San Antonio – Amazon Giveaway – Free Easter Pattern

Butterfly Baby Dress Crochet Pattern

easter

Unfortunately, our Houston mini vacation has been postponed due to Mick Jagger’s health. Disappointing for us, but I’m sure it’s more frustrating for the Rolling Stones. Hopefully he will heal quickly, and the tour will be rescheduled. Facebook rumors say it will be rescheduled for October, so we’ll see.

We also had tickets for the San Antonio Commanders final home game this weekend, but the Alliance of American Football abruptly shut down the league this week. It’s so disappointing for San Antonio football fans. We attended all the home games, and the fans were great! Texas is definitely football country.

From an entertainment standpoint, we definitely won’t be bored. April is definitely a good time of year to be in San Antonio. This weekend is the Poteet Strawberry Festival, which has always been a favorite for our family. Great music, carnival rides, and all the typical fair food including anything you can think of that is made of strawberries. If the rain holds off on Saturday, we will go see David Lee Garza y Los Musicales, one of my husband’s favorite Tejano bands.

Next week I’ll be getting the house ready for Easter. The Ferrel Family tradition is fajitas for Easter dinner – beef, chicken, and sausage. There will also be rice and beans, potato salad, guacamole, pico de gallo, tortillas, and I’m still working on ideas for a dessert to impress. Family, good food, children running in and out, and of course, cascarones, confetti eggs to crack on someone’s head.

My go-to gift for the children for Easter is a bunny bag filled with candy. The pattern is available in my Ravelry shop as a free download with any purchase through Easter.
