Rnd 1: With Gray yarn, ch 2 (or magic ring), 6 sc in 2^nd ch (6 sc). Do not join.

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st (12 sc). Do not join.

Rnd 3: *Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st,* repeat around (18 sc). Do not join.

Rnd 4: *Sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st,* repeat around (24 sc). Do not join.

Rnd 5: *Sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st,* repeat around (30 sc). Do not join.

Rnd 6: *Sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st,* repeat around (36 sc). Do not join.

Rnd 107: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first st, sc in remaining sts (72 sc).

Rnds 108-110: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st. Fasten off white at end of Row 110.

Rnds 24-110 should measure 18” to leave opening for an 18” zipper.

Rnd 111: With right side facing, attach Gray yarn. Ch 1, sc in each st. Do not join. Work in continuous rnds for the remainder of the rocket.

Rnd 112: *Dec, sc in next 10 sts,* repeat around (66 sc).

Rnd 113: Sc in each st.

Rnd 114: *Dec, sc in next 9 sts,* repeat around (60 sc).

Rnd 115: Sc in each st.

With right sides tog, pick up both lps in top piece and bottom piece all the way across one side. Starting at ch-2 sp in corner, sew tog 2^nd ch of both sides. Sew tog each dc and ch sp along the side, ending with sewing tog first ch in ch-2 sp. Join 8 squares in a row this way.

Lay 2 rows right sides tog and sew together in the same manner. Join all rows this way.

Join Navy Blue yarn at any point on the edge of the blanket. Dc in each dc, dc in each ch-1 sp including at the seams where you will dc in 1 ch on each side of the seam. At the corner, work 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the corner ch-2 space. Occasionally lay your blanket flat to be sure the edging is not stretching or buckling. If necessary, adjust by adding or removing sts. Work all 4 sides in the same manner, joining with a sl st in the beg ch-3.

 

Finished blanket measures approximately 38″ long by 33” wide. When blanket is rolled up inside, the rocket measures approximately 25” long.

It’s Day One of the Rocket Nap Buddy, beginning with making 56 granny squares.

Finished blanket measures approximately 38″ long by 33” wide. When blanket is rolled up inside, the rocket measures approximately 25” long.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Materials you will need:

Worsted weight yarn

21 oz. Navy Blue

9 oz. White

2 oz. Gray

13 yards Baby Blue

Size H (5.0 mm) crochet hook

Yarn needle

18” zipper

Foam interfacing

Appliques (as desired)

Blanket is made of 56 granny squares, 7 rows of 8 squares. If more length is desired, use 9 squares per row. Keep in mind that more yarn will be required. Also, anything more than 9 rows likely will not fit inside rocket.

Gauge: One granny square = 4.75″
