Reindeer Butt Ornament Crochet Pattern

reindeer butt ornament

Did everyone have a great Thanksgiving weekend? Ours was nice and quiet, and I got a lot of crocheting done. The tree is up, and the nutcrackers are all standing at attention on the mantle, so now I have to start wrapping presents. There are still quite a few more small ones that I need to make but only one big one left to go. Hopefully I’ll make it in time!

One of the designs I did over Thanksgiving weekend is a Reindeer Butt Ornament. It looks so cute hanging on the tree!

Ornament measures approximately 5” tall (including tail).

Crocheter’s Christmas Wish List

WISH LIST

Thanksgiving is over, the kitchen is clean, and there are enough leftovers that you don’t have to worry about cooking the rest of the weekend. This is when I usually put up my tree, simply because the long weekend gave me extra time to decorate. With a full-time job and taking care of children, time was at a premium in my house. Now I can relax and put up the Christmas tree whenever I want, but I think I’ll do it today anyway. It wouldn’t seem like Thanksgiving weekend without it.

So what will you be crocheting this weekend with all the extra time you’ll have? I’m still working on a couple of gifts, and then I’ll work on more stuffed animals and hats to go to the children at the women’s shelter.

We’ve worked hard this year making all those handmade gifts, so now it’s time to sit down and decide what we want for Christmas.  I’ve put together a list from some of the internet’s top crocheters. You might want to print this out and (accidentally) leave it on the kitchen table for your significant other to see. 😊

1. Patterns and Books

Personally, my yarn collection comes and goes, but it’s simply a supply I need to practice my craft. Patterns on the other hand are my weakness. I still have books from 40 years ago, and I still make many of those designs. Every time we move, I purge more pattern books, but there are some that I just cannot part with.

There are so many talented designers in the world of crochet, and I am proud to be one of them. Check out my patterns on Ravelry with a Cyber Week Sale – Buy 1 Get 1 Free on all patterns and ebooks. No coupon code required. https://www.ravelry.com/redeem/my-fingers-fly-designs?sale=296868

The sale will run through November 30.

All patterns and ebooks are 50% off on Ribblr.

If you’re old-school like me and like the feel of a paper book, many of my books are also available in paperback format on Barnes & Noble.

2. Yarn/Yarn Store Gift Card

There is no limit to the jokes people make about the size of their yarn stashes! My yarn collection is considerable, but I try to keep it under control by purchasing only what I need for the next project. Hey, it’s not my fault that none of my available yarns are suitable for the next project! 😉

Like designers, there are many yarn companies from which to choose. These are two of my favorite:

Denim Dreams Pocket Shawl Crochet Pattern

denim dreams pocket shawl

Soft and cozy, like your favorite pair of jeans, the Denim Dreams Pocket Shawl Crochet Pattern uses Lion Brand Jeans yarn and a size H (5.0 mm) hook. This yarn provides a lovely drape, and the lemon peel stitch is so easy!

Skill level: Easy

Finished pocket shawl (excluding fringe) measures approximately 16″ wide by your desired length. You can also make it more narrow for a gorgeous denim scarf.

Note: Rule of thumb for pocket shawls is to make it 2” longer than the person’s height.
For example, I am 62” tall, so the pocket shawl in the photo is 64” long excluding the fringe.

Materials you will need:
Lion Brand Jeans yarn
6 skeins colorway Stonewash
Size H (5.0 mm) crochet hook
Yarn needle
Two 1” brass buttons

Gauge: 14 sts = 4″, 14 rows = 4″

Lemon Peel Stitch:
Make a chain the desired width of your shawl. This should be an even number, then add one chain as turning chain.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, dc in next ch, *sc in next ch, dc in next ch,* repeat across, ending with dc in last ch.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, *sc in dc, dc in sc,* repeat across, ending with dc in last sc.
Repeat Row 2 until piece reaches desired length.

YouTube tutorial: Lemon Peel Stitch

Directions:
Shawl:
Row 1: Ch 65, Sc in 2nd ch from hook, dc in next ch, *sc in next ch, dc in next ch,* repeat across, ending with dc in last ch (64 sts).
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, *sc in dc, dc in sc,* repeat across, ending with dc in last sc.
Repeat Row 2 until piece reaches desired length. Fasten off yarn.
Return to Row 1 and work in unused lps of foundation ch. Make sure you are starting with your first sc in dc of Row 1. *Sc in dc, dc in sc,* repeat across, ending with dc in last sc. Fasten off yarn.
Pockets: (Make 2)
Row 1: Ch 33, Sc in 2nd ch from hook, dc in next ch, *sc in next ch, dc in next ch,* repeat across, ending with dc in last ch (32sts).
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, *sc in dc, dc in sc,* repeat across, ending with dc in last sc.
Repeat Row 2 until pocket measures 8” (approximately 27 rows). Mark this row on both sides.
Row 28: Ch 1, turn, sk first st, *dc in next sc, sc in next dc,* repeat across until 3 sts remain, dc in next st, sc next 2 sts tog (30 sts).
Row 29: Ch 1, turn, sc first 2 sts tog, *dc in next sc, sc in next dc,* repeat across until 2 sts remain, dc last 2 sts tog (28 sts).
Repeat Rows 28-29 six times until 2 sts remain.
Last row: Sc last 2 sts tog. Fasten off yarn.
Fold pocket flat down at marked row and attach to body of pocket by sewing brass button near the tip of pocket flap.
Sew one pocket centered on each end of shawl, approximately 1” from end of shawl.
Fringe: (optional)
Cut 256 lengths of yarn 12” long. Using 2 pieces at a time folded in half, insert hook into st at edge of shawl, pull yarn through st, pull yarn ends through lp. Repeat across both ends of shawl. Trim fringe even if desired.

Happy New Year Coloring Page

Oh my goodness! What a whirlwind 2021 has been. Thanks to all my followers for supporting me throughout the year. I have thoroughly enjoyed each and every issue, and I appreciate all the love for the designs I publish. Here’s to an even better 2022!

Are you ready for 2021 to be over? Looking forward to 2022? Here in Texas we’ve been having beautiful spring-like weather. Christmas Day it got up to 84 degrees, and we were playing with a pinata in the backyard. It looks like that’s about to change. There’s a cold front headed for the southern portion of the United States. Saturday is New Year’s Day, and we’re supposed to have a high of 79 degrees, then a 50-degree drop by Saturday night. I know by the time it gets dark, I’ll be on the sofa crocheting with a nice fire going in the fireplace. At least I’ll get to use the marshmallows I bought for making smores at Christmas. What are your 2022 crochet plans?
