Reindeer Roundup: My Favorite Crochet Reindeer Projects

Nothing says “holiday crochet season” quite like a herd of adorable reindeer! Whether they’re tiny tree ornaments, squishy amigurumi, or decked out in scarves and jingling bells, reindeer patterns always bring that perfect mix of cozy charm and festive cheer. Today I’m rounding up some of my all-time favorite reindeer makes—projects that are fun to stitch, gift, and display year after year.

Why Reindeer Make the Perfect Crochet Project

Reindeer are one of those magical creatures that translate beautifully into yarn. Big noses, soft antlers, round bellies, cute hooves—there’s so much room to play with shape and personality. Plus, they fit into tons of themes: rustic woodland, bright and whimsical, classic Christmas, or even modern minimal.

Whether you love quick projects or showstoppers, there’s a reindeer design for you.

Reindeer Butt Ornaments

These little cuties are fast, beginner-friendly, and perfect for using up scrap yarn. Add a loop of twine or ribbon to hang the ornament, and you’ve got an instant gift topper or tree ornament. They’re great for craft shows too—people can’t resist these tiny decorations! This is a free pattern on the blog.

Plush reindeer make wonderful keepsakes and cuddle buddies. I love working with soft, chunky yarn to make them extra huggable. A simple body shape combined with embroidered eyes and felt antlers creates a classic, timeless look. Add a tiny scarf and suddenly your reindeer has a whole personality.

If you want something practical and cute, reindeer-themed bags are a hit. They’re roomy enough to small presents or holiday treats. Plus, the antlers sticking out the top always get a smile. This is a free pattern on the blog.

Reindeer Stocking

Reindeer faces look amazing stitched onto holiday stockings—especially when you play with colorwork. You can keep it traditional or go wild with modern shades. This is a project that becomes an heirloom in no time.

Silly or Whimsical Reindeer Designs

Some of my favorite patterns are the goofy ones—the reindeer that look shocked, sleepy, or a little too excited about Christmas cookies. Character-driven designs are always fun to make and even more fun to gift.

Sam I Yam’s Thankful Little Adventure

Sam I Yam wasn’t your ordinary yam. While the other veggies in the pantry dreamed of becoming casseroles or pies, Sam had bigger plans. He wanted to celebrate Thanksgiving, not be Thanksgiving.

So early that morning, he rolled himself right out of the vegetable bowl and bounced across the kitchen floor. With a determined plop-plop-plop, he made his way to the dining room, where the table was already set with shiny silverware, cinnamon candles, and a mountain of fluffy rolls.

Sam peeked over the edge and gasped. “Whoa… so this is Thanksgiving!”

He waddled toward the centerpiece—a big basket overflowing with pumpkins and leaves. Nestled inside was a lonely little cranberry who looked like she might burst into tears.

“You okay?” Sam asked, giving her a friendly nudge.

“I’m Clara Cranberry,” she sniffled. “Everyone keeps talking about the turkey and the pies. No one ever gets excited about one tiny cranberry.”

Sam puffed up proudly. “Well, no one gets excited about one tiny yam either! But you know what? Thanksgiving isn’t about being the biggest star. It’s about bringing what you bring.”

“What do you bring?” Clara asked.

Sam thought for a moment. “I bring… enthusiasm! And optimism! And… occasional rolling.”

Clara giggled.

Just then, the family walked in, ooh-ing and ahh-ing at the beautiful table. A little girl spotted Sam and Clara sitting proudly in the centerpiece.

“Mama, look! The cutest yam ever!”

Sam felt his cheeks warm. Clara glowed like a ruby.

The little girl scooped them both up. “Can we keep them here every year?”

And so Sam I Yam didn’t become casserole. Clara didn’t become sauce. Instead, they became part of the tradition—the tiny heroes of the Thanksgiving table.

Every year after that, Sam reminded everyone:

“Anyone can be important on Thanksgiving… as long as they show up with heart.”

And Clara always added, “And maybe a little sauce.”
