2021 Crochet Round-up

I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas holiday. Ours was filled with family, friends, and food. We made tamales at our houses, and other family members brought rice, beans, and a brisket. Of course, I also made a few pies. My niece loves strawberry pie, so that was a must! It was so much fun watching the children open their gifts, playing games with the family, and my SIL brought a pinata for the kids. So much fun!

Once Christmas is over, thoughts turn to New Year’s Eve and the goals for the coming year. Have you started working on your resolutions yet? I’ve compiled some of my most popular blog posts to help with that.

Pets

Are you adopting a pet this year, or did you get a puppy for Christmas? My Bruno was a Christmas gift from my husband last year, and I published the sweater pattern I designed for him. There are 2 puppy sizes, and I’m going to work on an adult pug sweater before the weather gets cold in Texas.

Happy Birthday!!!

birthday gift tags

Another year has come and gone, and this one has been rough. What I thought was a pulled muscle in my back causing pain turned out to be a symptom of gallstones. Today I am 3 weeks post cholecystectomy, and I’m pretty much back to feeling normal. Well, normal for my age anyway. Yes, I’m at the age now where things just don’t work as well as I would like. Fortunately, I have this little crochet business which allows me to work my own schedule. As the story goes, I’m working 80 hours a week for myself in order to avoid working 40 hours a week for someone else! The great part is most of that time is spent crocheting, which really isn’t work to me at all. Enough about me! Today I have some more gift tags for you to download, this time Birthday Tags.

Tokyo Olympics

Have you been watching the Olympics. The other evening I saw watching the beauty of synchronized diving. I don’t know anything about the sport except less splash means a higher score, but when they’re in perfect synch, it’s beautiful to watch. They did a backstory about Tom Daley hoping to win gold, as he has been an Olympic diver since he was 14. Of course, that guaranteed that I would root for him, because everyone loves an underdog story. Then yesterday in a crochet group on Facebook, someone posted a story about Daley learning to knit and crochet. Now I’m definitely a fan! Congratulations Tom and his diving partner Matty Lee on winning gold!

As fiber artists, most of us are not Olympians and spend entirely too much time sitting down. Take a look at this great video from Brittany for some great exercises – Yoga for Crafters.

What Do You Get When You Cross an Octopus with a Tomato?

Octopus tomato amigurumi

Octomato!!

Recently while scrolling through Tiktok (I love following other crocheters), I saw @medisweetscrafts challenged her viewers to combine an animal and a fruit into one amigurumi. Since I just finished another octopus eyeglass holder, and I’m eating lots of cherry tomatoes from my garden, the first thing that popped into my head was an octopus with a tomato head. Voila! Learn to Crochet an Octopus

octopus amigurumi

If you have been following my blog, you saw last month’s National Zoo Animal Blog Hop. June 1 was National Reef Awareness Day, so we had several sea animal crochet patterns for that day, one of which was an Octopus Eyeglass Holder. Even though I started a YouTube tutorial for the Octopus, the blog hop took more time than I thought, and the days flew by! Then I found out I had gallstones and had to undergo a cholecystectomy (yuk) which put me even further behind. This is such a fun pattern, though, so I promised myself I would get it finished this week. I finally finished the edits and published it on YouTube today. Please reach out to me if you have any issues with the tutorial.
