Drill Baby Rattle Crochet Pattern – Impact Wrench Rattle Crochet Pattern

Since today is Collector Car Appreciation Day, I thought it would be fun to post a cute pattern I designed a few years ago, a baby rattle shaped like an impact wrench. It can be crocheted using cotton or polyester worsted, but I prefer I Love This Cotton for baby toys. It makes a great baby shower gift for expectant parents who are car enthusiasts, NASCAR fans, and automotive technicians, and even serves as a drill rattle for a future dentist.

Impact wrench rattle measures approximately 3 1/4” x 5”

Materials:

Sport yarn or cotton worsted –

2 oz. gray

Few yards black

Size F (3.75 mm) crochet hook

Fiberfil

Yarn needle

Rnd 1: With black yarn, ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Do not join.

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st (12 sc).

Rnd 10: *Sc in each of next 6 sts, 2 sc in next st,* repeat around (24 sc).

Rnd 11: *Sc in each of next 7 sts, 2 sc in next st,* repeat around (27 sc).

Rnd 12: *Sc in each of next 8 sts, 2 sc in next st,* repeat around (30 sc). Join with sl st.

Rnd 13: Working in back loops only, sc in each st around.

Rnds 14-23: Working in both loops, sc in each st around. At end of Rnd 23, join with sl st.

Rnd 24: Working in back loops only, *sc in each of next 3 st, dec,* repeat around (24 sc). Do not join.

Rnd 25: Working in both loops, *sc in each of next 2 st, dec,* repeat around (18 sc). Fill with Fiberfil and rattle insert.

Rnd 26: *Sc in next st, dec,* repeat around (12 sc).

Rnd 27: Dec around (6 sc). Fasten off leaving length for sewing. Thread through yarn needle and weave through last 6 sts. Pull tight to close opening and sew closed.

HANDLE:

Rnd 1: With gray yarn, ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Do not join.

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around (12 sc).

Rnd 3: Sc in each st. Continue to work even in sc until piece measures 2 ½”.

Next rnd: *Sc in each of next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st,* repeat around (18 sc).

Summer Fun – Camera Day – Paul Bunyan Day

My summer has started off great. Last weekend was a trip to Houston to Daughter #2’s house for my grandson’s birthday. Daughter-in-law and granddaughter accompanied me on the drive from San Antonio. We got stuck in Houston traffic and arrived at the party late, but we still had a great time. More importantly, the birthday boy had a wonderful day! The return trip included a detour to Austin to give Daughter #4 a ride home.

Wednesday night was a sleepover at my house for my grandaughter, 3 nieces, and a nephew. We live far enough out of the city to enjoy a little bit of wildlife in the evenings, and the kids had a great time catching frogs, naming them, and then releasing them.

As far as crochet is concerned, the big question is what to crochet in the summertime. Many people believe it’s only a hobby that can be done in cooler months, but that is far from the truth. Blankets are great for winter crochet, especially once they get big enough so you can cover yourself while you work. However, there are lots of great options for crocheting in the warmer weather. Small projects such as amigurumi won’t smother you while you work on them. Potholders and scrubbies made of cotton are also great ideas. For many years, I have made a Christmas list at the beginning of January and spent the year filling in the slots with completed crocheted gifts. Summer is a great time to complete holiday gifts, prepare for winter craft shows, or make hats and scarves for your favorite charity. Of course, baby items are always such fun to make, and there always seems to be a new baby in the family or in the neighborhood. One of my most requested baby patterns is a Lumberjack Axe Rattle, perfect for Paul Bunyan Day today. The rattle requires just a few ounces of yarn (my favorite for this project is I Love This Cotton).

https://www.myfingersfly.com/products/baby-lumberjack-axe-rattle-crochet-pattern

For this week’s Friday Freebie, in honor of Camera Day on June 29, I have chosen a pattern on the Addi Express knitting machine for a Camera Lens Buddy. These were designed for a photographer I worked with last year, because she wanted something to make children smile at her camera. It’s a fun pattern that works up quickly and easily with yarn from your stash. I would love to see photos of your lens buddies at http://instagram.com/myfingersfly

April in San Antonio – Amazon Giveaway – Free Easter Pattern

Butterfly Baby Dress Crochet Pattern

easter

Unfortunately, our Houston mini vacation has been postponed due to Mick Jagger’s health. Disappointing for us, but I’m sure it’s more frustrating for the Rolling Stones. Hopefully he will heal quickly, and the tour will be rescheduled. Facebook rumors say it will be rescheduled for October, so we’ll see.

We also had tickets for the San Antonio Commanders final home game this weekend, but the Alliance of American Football abruptly shut down the league this week. It’s so disappointing for San Antonio football fans. We attended all the home games, and the fans were great! Texas is definitely football country.

football earwarmer 2

http://Football Earwarmer Knit Pattern

From an entertainment standpoint, we definitely won’t be bored. April is definitely a good time of year to be in San Antonio. This weekend is the Poteet Strawberry Festival, which has always been a favorite for our family. Great music, carnival rides, and all the typical fair food including anything you can think of that is made of strawberries. If the rain holds off on Saturday, we will go see David Lee Garza y Los Musicales, one of my husband’s favorite Tejano bands.

Next week I’ll be getting the house ready for Easter. The Ferrel Family tradition is fajitas for Easter dinner – beef, chicken, and sausage. There will also be rice and beans, potato salad, guacamole, pico de gallo, tortillas, and I’m still working on ideas for a dessert to impress. Family, good food, children running in and out, and of course, cascarones, confetti eggs to crack on someone’s head.

My go-to gift for the children for Easter is a bunny bag filled with candy. The pattern is available in my Ravelry shop as a free download with any purchase through Easter.
