With only three months left in the year, there are still so many things I want to accomplish. By the end of September, I will have a new listing in my shop for a great Christmas gift for crocheters and knitters. In October I will be publishing my first children’s book. Then it will be time to focus on Christmas gifts and my donation box. In the meantime, stay safe and happy crocheting!
Don’t forget the Gnome Election – Make a Republican Gnome or Democrat Gnome to support your candidate.
We’re still in 100-degree weather in San Antonio, but I’m still in a Halloween mood. This week I will be publishing three different designs for chair socks to get your dining room ready for Halloween. Today’s pattern is a ghost chair sock, which will be followed by Frankenstein’s monster and a spider.
The ghost chair sock takes only 11 yards of white yarn and takes just a few minutes to crochet. Eyes and mouth can be painted on, embroidered with black yarn, or glued on with felt. Grab your scrap basket and make up a few in one evening.
Finished Measurements: Approximately 2” tall, 1.5” diameter to fit 4.5” circumference chair leg
Gauge: 5 sc = 1”
Directions:

Stay tuned for more Halloween designs in September, along with a book of Halloween Crochet Patterns by the end of the month. Hopefully we’ll get some cooler weather by then!
Because so many of us have been sequestered at home over the past few months, there has been a lot of talk in the crochet groups on Facebook about what to do with leftover scraps of yarn. This is also the time of year that crafters begin to look at their Christmas lists and plan for homemade gifts. Amigurumi is always a big hit with the little ones, and this elephant finger puppet pattern takes less than an ounce of worsted yarn, and they’re so quick, you can make a few in one evening. PDF is available at My Fingers Fly on Etsy.

I’m still working diligently on Halloween patterns for a new crochet book. So far I’m in love with all the designs. When the book is ready to publish, I will be announcing a Halloween giveaway. Several patterns are already available:
Since today is Collector Car Appreciation Day, I thought it would be fun to post a cute pattern I designed a few years ago, a baby rattle shaped like an impact wrench. It can be crocheted using cotton or polyester worsted, but I prefer I Love This Cotton for baby toys. It makes a great baby shower gift for expectant parents who are car enthusiasts, NASCAR fans, and automotive technicians, and even serves as a drill rattle for a future dentist.

I know it’s the middle of summer, and the heat that goes along with it sometimes limits our crojo. Try making a few small projects that won’t cover you in yarn. My mind has been set on Halloween lately, and I came up with this spooky plague masks for Halloween using I Love This Cotton yarn.
Last month the Getty Museum challenged people to recreate famous works of art. The results were sometimes amazing, sometimes hysterical. The Getty Challenge
I decided to try my own recreation using crochet. Turns out, one of the biggest challenges was finding a famous painting that looked easy enough to duplicate in yarn but still appealed to me visually. I wanted something colorful to cheer me up on these dreary days. Settling on one of Van Gogh’s sunflower paintings, I rummaged through my yarn stash to find the appropriate colors.
This pattern was just for fun and has not been tested, so feedback would be greatly appreciated.
