National Coffee with a Cop Day – Free Cop Hat Ornament Pattern

Every year on the first Wednesday in October, National Coffee with a Cop Day brings men and women in uniform together with their communities to connect over a cup of coffee. If you have a member of law enforcement in your family, you’re going to love this new Policeman’s Hat Ornament Crochet Pattern.

This pattern was designed as part of a series for my recent ebook, It’s a Wonderful Life Advent Calendar. The Policeman Hat Ornament symbolizes Bert the Cop, one of George Bailey’s best friends.

Just a few yards of sport or worsted weight yarn are needed for these ornaments. Using your scrap basket, make a few different colors to match the uniforms of different jurisdictions.

Pug Christmas Tree Ornament

pug ornament

For the last Christmas in July post of the year, I made a cute little Christmas ornament to match my pug, Bruno. He doesn’t look too impressed, does he?

pug ornament

Anyway, I thought it was cute, and I’ll hang it on my tree this year. I may even make a couple more with squeakers inside. That should impress him! Bruno loves squeakers and won’t play with a toy that doesn’t make noise.

It only takes a few yards of each color, so you probably already have them in your scrap basket.

Christmas in July – Melted Snowman Ornament crochet pattern

melted snowman ornament

☃️ Oops! Melted Snowman Ornament – A Hilarious Holiday DIY

Looking for a holiday craft that’s equal parts cute, funny, and unique? Say hello to the Melted Snowman Ornament—a whimsical decoration that’s guaranteed to bring laughs to your tree (and maybe a few sympathetic “aww”s).

This clever craft captures the magic of winter with a little twist: instead of a perfectly built snowman, you get his melted remains—complete with coal eyes, a carrot nose, buttons, and maybe even a tiny scarf floating in a puddle of glittery snow.

Why You’ll Love It

  • Easy to make – Great for kids, families, and beginner crafters

  • Budget-friendly – Uses simple supplies like clear plastic ornaments, faux snow, buttons, and felt

  • Funny conversation piece – A hit at ornament swaps or craft fairs

  • Perfect handmade gift – Especially for teachers, coworkers, or anyone who loves a good holiday chuckle

🎄 How to Make a Melted Snowman Ornament

Materials:

Sport weight yarn – 15 yards white, 4 yards black

Size E (3.5 mm) crochet hook

Yarn needle

White adhesive felt

Ribbon for hanging

Assorted decorations – Googly eyes, felt, twigs, buttons, pompoms

Finished ornament measures approximately 3” diameter.

Rnd 10: *Sc next 8 sts, 2 sc next st,* repeat around (70 sc). Join with sl st. Fasten off white. Weave in end.

Place on white adhesive felt and mark around the snowman. Cut felt just inside marked line.

HAT:

Rnd 1: With E hook and black yarn, ch 2 (or magic circle), 7 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Do not join. Work in continuous rnds throughout.

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st (14 sc).

Rnd 3: In BLO, sc in each st.

Rnds 4-5: Working in both loops, sc in each st.

Rnd 6: In FLO, 2 sc in each st (28 sc). Join with sl st. Fasten off black leaving 9” length for sewing. Sew hat to top of snowman.

Peel backing from felt and place on back of snowman, matching edges. Trim felt if needed.

Decorate the snowman by gluing twigs, buttons, pompoms, etc. to top in haphazard fashion. Cut small mittens, scarf, carrot nose, or corncob pipe out of felt and glue on snowman.

Cut piece of ribbon and thread through the top of the ornament for hanging.

🎁 Fun Ideas & Variations

  • Add a printed label with the year for a keepsake

  • Include a funny gift tag: “Wishing you a meltdown-free holiday!”

  • Make them with friends at a DIY ornament party

  • Sell them at craft fairs or give as party favors

❄️ A Little Laugh for the Holidays

Not every snowman survives the season (especially here in Texas), but this one will live on—inside a cozy ornament, spreading smiles year after year. Whether you’re crafting for fun or gifting with a wink, the melted snowman ornament is a lighthearted way to celebrate the season.

Have you made your own melted snowman? Share your creations with #MeltedSnowmanCraft and join the holiday fun!

London Trip Part III – Crown Ornament Crochet Pattern

Crown Ornament Crochet Pattern

The last days of our London trip were just as amazing as the first two. Our tour guide for Windsor Castle was Alfie, and our driver for the 22-mile drive was Graham. Can’t get much more British than that! The weather was cold and rainy, but Alfie was a fountain of knowledge of British history. Windsor Castle is the Queen’s childhood home and where she spends her weekends. The first part of the tour was the church in the castle – St. George’s Chapel. Construction began on this section of the castle in the 14th century. It is called a Royal Peculiar, which is a fancy way of saying that it is under the direct jurisdiction of the monarch. The Queen’s parents and sister are interred in St. George’s Chapel, along with Henry VIII and his beloved Jane Seymour.

YouTube – Windsor Castle

The State Apartments are on the north side of the castle and contain a vast collection of artwork, antiques, artifacts, and royal china.

Outside of the castle is a shopping mall with souvenir shops and restaurants. I wanted to warm up, so we went into a pub called Bella Italia for a cappuccino. Wow! I’ve never seen a liquor with my name on it.

After warming up and doing a little shopping, it was time to walk down to Bel & The Dragon Pub for lunch with the rest of the group. Their website says “The historic restaurant and tea room has been serving food and drink since the 11th Century.”

Bel & The Dragon

It was a lovely luncheon with spiced cauliflower soup followed by roasted suckling pig and potatoes roasted in duck fat. After lunch and several cups of tea, we had a little time to wander the shops of the area. By this time, the rain had stopped and the view of the river was gorgeous.

Once we got back to London, the rain started again, so we decided not to attend the dinner cruise on the River Thames. Instead, we opted for Trader Vic’s in our hotel for drinks and an excellent steak dinner.

Texans v. Jaguars

Sunday started out with a pregame party at Sway with tailgate-style food and two of the best party hosts ever. Sway Bar

The hat is from a pattern in my Etsy shop – Football Earflap Hat.

Then it was back onto the bus for the 1-hour ride to Wembley Stadium. The attendance that day was 85,000 people – wow! I never realized Europeans like American football so much, but we were surrounded by British, French, German, and Croatian fans. Fortunately, our Texans won the game.

It was an unforgettable adventure!
