Triceratops Baby Rainbow

I was recently challenged to design a rainbow amigurumi for Pride Month. Until I started googling, I had no idea there were so many amigurumi animals done in a rainbow theme. The frill on the neck of a triceratops is a perfect place to put a rainbow, and the beautiful colors make this cute little guy more of a baby rather than a fierce predator. What do you think? Just look at that cute little face!

Triceratops Baby measures approximately 11” long (including tail) by 5” tall.

Gauge: 4 sc = 1”, 4 rows = 1”

Worsted weight yarn

How to Crochet a Nosegay

nosegay crochet pattern

No matter where we travel, no matter how long we live in a certain place, I always plant roses in the yard. My favorites are the miniature rose bushes. This year the bright colors have given me so much pleasure! When I designed a Skunk Baby Amigurumi, I originally made it holding a heart, but then I had to add the option of a rosebud nosegay for it to hold also.

Nosegay:

Materials:
1 oz. green Bernat Blanket yarn
1 oz. pink Bernat Blanket yarn
Foam curler (or Fiberfill)

YouTube tutorial: https://youtu.be/KR9LPWyn3MU

Directions:
Base:
Rnd 1: With green yarn, ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Do not join. Work in continuous rnds throughout.
Rnd 2: Sc in each st. Repeat Rnd 2 until piece measures 5” long (or desired length).
Next Rnd: 2 sc in each st (12 sc).
Next Rnd: *Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st,* repeat around (18 sc). Join with sl st. Fasten off.

Roses: (Make 6)
With pink yarn (or desired color), ch 12, sc in 2nd ch from hook, *hdc in next ch, dc in next ch, hdc in next ch, sc I next ch,* repeat once, hdc in next ch, dc in last ch. Fasten off leaving length for sewing.
Starting at first sc, roll flower with right side out. Sew through bottom sts to secure flower.
Using green yarn, sew flowers to base.

As a special bonus, you can also get the Skunk Baby Amigurumi crochet pattern on Ravelry free to the first 100 customers with coupon code BABYSKUNK. After that, the pattern will be 50% off through Friday, June 10.

I Love the Beach Coloring Page

I love the beach

Memorial Day weekend is considered the unofficial start of summer in the United States, and people will be flocking to beaches all over the country.

I grew up in Galveston County, Texas, so our family spent a lot of time at the beaches in Galveston and Freeport. Lazy summer days were spent collecting seashells, building sandcastles, wading in the water to search for minnows and hermit crabs, and eating picnic lunches on a blanket spread out on the sand. Later in life, I have taken my children to Jones Beach in New York, Castellamare beach in Sicily, Carolina Beach in Wilmington, and of course Galveston Beach. We also took the kids to Venice Beach on a California trip several years ago.

One of the greatest thrills in Galveston was the ferry ride to Bolivar Island. I remember driving up to get in line for the ferry. Wait times were usually about 30 minutes, but there was always a snow cone vendor to cool us down while we waited for the next ferry. The ride was so exciting! Once the ferry got started, we were allowed to get out of the car and stand on deck and allow the sea breeze to cool us. Sightings are rare now, but at that time, it was not uncommon to see a dolphin (or several) following the boat. Seagulls always screeched overhead waiting for tourists to throw them food. The ferry docked on the Bolivar side, and we would drive off the boat to go to Crystal Beach. Such wonderful memories!

Happy Spring Coloring Page

happy spring coloring page

It’s National Picnic Day, and there’s no better way to celebrate springtime than by preparing a basket of food, grabbing a blanket, and going to the park to enjoy the beautiful weather. Here in San Antonio, it’s a lovely spring day, though a little bit breezy. Picnics are very popular here, especially on holiday weekends. People are known to camp out beginning Friday just to save the best spot in their favorite park for Easter Sunday, Memorial Day, and Fourth of July picnics. Here’s a free spring coloring page for your littles (or for yourself) to set the springtime mood.
