Football Playoff Time! Stitch Up a Pigskin Amigurumi 🏈🐷

Football playoff time is finally here — which means big games, loud cheers, and plenty of time curled up with yarn while watching from the couch.

If you love mixing sports spirit with handmade fun, this is the perfect season to crochet something playful… like a Pigskin Amigurumi — a football-shaped pig that’s equal parts cute and clever.

A Football With a Twist

The Pigskin Amigurumi combines two favorites:

  • 🏈 classic football shape

  • 🐷 adorable pig details

The result? A fun conversation piece that’s perfect for football fans, sports-themed gifts, and game-day décor.

It’s cute enough for kids, fun enough for adults, and makes everyone smile when they realize it’s not just a football.

Perfect for Playoff Stitching

Playoff games are ideal for crochet projects:

  • Long stretches of watching

  • Plenty of breaks between plays

  • Cozy couch time

The Pigskin Amigurumi is a great project to work on during games because it’s engaging without being complicated — perfect for stitching while keeping one eye on the score.

Great Gift Idea for Football Fans

Looking for something handmade that’s a little different?

This football pig makes a great:

  • 🎁 Gift for football lovers

  • 🐷 Fun toy for kids (with supervision)

  • 🏈 Sports-themed nursery accent

  • 🎉 Game-day decoration

It’s especially fun for playoff parties — set it out as décor or gift it to the biggest fan in the room.

Make It Your Team Colors

While the classic pigskin look is always a favorite, this pattern can easily be customized:

  • Team colors

  • School colors

  • Favorite player inspiration

A little color change turns it into a personalized keepsake.

Stitch Your Own Pigskin Amigurumi

If you’re looking for a lighthearted project to celebrate playoff season, the Pigskin Amigurumi — Football Shaped Pig Crochet Pattern is a fun way to bring yarn and football together.

Because during playoff time… even pigs want to play football 🐷🏈

National Yellow Pig Day: Celebrate the Quirky Side of Math (and Maybe Crochet a Pig!)

Every July 17th, math lovers and fans of the wonderfully weird come together to celebrate National Yellow Pig Day — a day devoted to the number 17, mathematical curiosities, and yes… a legendary yellow pig!

Born from the imagination of two Princeton mathematicians in the 1960s, this unusual holiday honors the many mathematical properties of the number 17 — from 17-sided polygons to 17-letter words — all wrapped in a pig-shaped package of fun.

🧠 Why Celebrate?

  • 17 is a prime number

  • It’s the number of syllables in a haiku (5-7-5)

  • There are 17 moves needed to solve a Rubik’s Cube

  • And of course… the mythical yellow pig has 17 eyelashes!

So how do you celebrate Yellow Pig Day?

🧶 With Yarn, Of Course!

Why not crochet a yellow pig in honor of the day? Whether it’s a tiny amigurumi, a pig-themed rattle, or even a pig eyeglass holder (double-theme alert!), this is a perfect opportunity to get playful with your projects.

To celebrate, all patterns and ebooks in my Ravelry shop are 17% off for one day only.

National Yellow Pig Day is all about embracing the unexpected, celebrating creativity, and maybe brushing up on a little math while you’re at it.

So pick your favorite shade of yellow, grab your hook, and honor the number 17 in the most adorable way possible!

Happy Yellow Pig Day! 🐷💛

National Mother Goose Day

Every May 1st, we celebrate National Mother Goose Day—a charming occasion that invites us to revisit the whimsical world of nursery rhymes, fairy tales, and sing-song stories that have enchanted children for centuries. Whether it’s “Jack and Jill” or “Humpty Dumpty,” these rhymes aren’t just playful verses—they’re part of our cultural fabric and childhood memories.

The Origin of Mother Goose
The term “Mother Goose” dates back to the 1600s in Europe, often referring to a fictitious author of nursery rhymes and fairy tales. The first English-language collection, Mother Goose’s Melodies, was published in the 18th century and included many rhymes still known today. Over time, “Mother Goose” became synonymous with storytelling for young children.

Why Celebrate?
Mother Goose rhymes do more than entertain. They teach rhythm, language, memory, and even simple morals. Their repetition and rhyme structure make them ideal for early literacy and language development. Plus, they offer a comforting connection between generations—most of us were rocked to sleep or cheered up with these verses as kids.

On this National Mother Goose Day, I have compiled a few crochet patterns (most are free) to celebrate the simple joy of storytelling. Whether you’re sharing rhymes with your children or recalling them from your own childhood, it’s a day to honor the magic of words, rhythm, and imagination.
